A quintet of sophomores suited up for the ACGC girls basketball team this past season and two of them made sizeable contributions for the gold and black. Point guard Jorja Hoover and shooting guard Kylie Young made the most of their starting roles this past year for the Chargers.

Hoover, who already has the career and single-season records for assists, dished the ball 79 times in 22 games. The previous single-season record was set back in 2017 by then senior Madison Berger with 56. Hoover is the first Charger to eclipse 100 assists for her career, as she has accumulated 113 in her first two years at ACGC. She recorded a season-high eight dimes in one win each over Interstate-35 and Madrid. She finished her sophomore season with 100 points, 83 rebounds, 34 steals, and seven blocks.

Young’s most valuable offensive contribution arguably came from beyond the three-point line. She hit 18 this season for ACGC, tying the single-season record with seniors Genevieve Hoover and Lauryn Embleton. Young’s best game of the season came in a win at Madrid on January 8th. She recorded a career high 17 points, along with seven rebounds, three completed three-pointers, and five steals in the 54-42 victory. She finished her sophomore season with 151 points, 79 rebounds, 28 assists, 46 steals, and nine blocks.

Reese Coffman, Olivia Van Meter, and Jenna Andersen also made their varsity debuts for the gold and black from the sophomore class. Tomorrow we’ll wrap up individual accomplishments for the girls with a look at the junior class.
