A Perry teenager was given a deferred prison sentence and probation after pleading guilty to amended charges related to an eluding incident in Perry last November.
According to court records, 19-year-old Brando Burgos reached a plea agreement, reducing a felony charge to a misdemeanor. Burgos was found guilty of one count of operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor, which was originally a charge of second degree theft, a class D felony. He was also found guilty of one count of eluding, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident where he left his family’s home in their car without permission, and was involved in a brief chase with officers.
Burgos received a two-year deferred prison sentence and two years of probation for the first charge, and a one-year deferred sentence and one year of probation for the second. The sentences will run consecutively, and will be added to the one-year deferred sentence and probation he received in November, which stemmed from a misdemeanor controlled substance violation in July. He was also ordered to pay $735 in court costs, surcharges, and victim restitution for the more recent charges.
