The Jefferson Public Works Department has been hard at work cleaning up the snow ever since this past weekend’s blizzard.
Public Works Director Dave Morlan says he had 13 people working over 33 hours between Saturday at midnight and 6:30am Monday plowing and hauling snow in town. He points out they also cleared paths at the Super 8 Motel to get to cars that were stranded and opened the airport. It was so much snow, Morlan adds he hired two additional larger dump trucks from Hamilton Redi-Mix and Schaffers to haul snow from the streets.
Earlier this week all of the roads were opened and by Tuesday morning, the airport was back open and Central Avenue to the water tower was cleared. City Administrator Mike Palmer appreciates the commitment all departments gave and continue to give this week.
“It’s a real total effort. This was one of the worst blizzards we could have with the heavy snow underneath. We appreciate everyone’s patience out there and all the hours that their guys have put in and continue to put in.”
Morlan says the rest of this week crews will clean up street curbs and corners and treat stop and yield sign intersections with salt and sand as needed.
