The annual International Women’s Day Coffee event in Perry is coming soon, and the public is invited to celebrate the accomplishments and future of females around the world.

The event will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 10 a.m. – noon at La Poste. Carol Cavanaugh, the founder of the Perry event, says it’s free and she encourages both women and men to attend. Festivities during the event include: seven women speakers covering a variety of topics; raffle drawings for artwork that was donated by a local artist; and a social time for attendees to share their experiences. There will also be free refreshments provided.

Cavanaugh says the initial event was hosted at her home in Perry in 2016, and she was surprised at how many people showed up. It’s grown rapidly since then, which she says is a great feeling. “More than anything, I hope to get young women involved too, because you know they’re our future. And there’s a lot of diversity now in Iowa, where I grew up here there wasn’t so much diversity. So it’s just great to bring all the women together in Perry, and it makes me feel great! I’m thrilled that women are passionate, and some of the men are very passionate about it too. So it’s good!”
