The Guthrie Center School Board met in regular session Monday.
The meeting began with an update from County Auditor Marci McClellan on upcoming changes to school board elections. This fall the elections will be held along with the general and regular election cycle, the first Tuesday in November. This change may triple the district’s typical election costs, and she mentioned they will need to meet about school boundary lines to comply with state requests.
Next, the Board approved Superintendent Steve Smith’s early retirement request, and approved a whole grade sharing payment to the Adair-Casey School District. The whole grade share percentage breakdown for the fall semester is 60.7% for Guthrie Center and 39.3% for Adair-Casey. The Board also approved a three-year contract with Guthrie Center Communications for internet service, as they came in as the lowest bidder, and their current provider through the area education agency will no longer be providing service after June.
Finally, the Board approved keeping drivers education tuition at $350, approved revisions of board policy, and discussed but took no action in making up eight snow days this year.
