Multiple competitive losses this winter has West Central Valley girls basketball coach Drew Stonewall excited about the future potential of his squad. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network taped a season wrap up interview with Stonewall Monday for the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page. He says if the girls put in extra time this offseason, he thinks they can improve on this year’s 5-16 record. “One of the things I did at (our) postseason meet (was) put up the scores of the games that we lost by five or less points up on the board,” Stonewall said, “I told them ‘Hey, a little extra effort here or there, a little extra effort this summer and we can flip the script on these (close losses).'”
Of West Central Valley’s 16 losses, eight were by a margin of eight points or less including a pair of overtime contests. The Wildcats lone graduate off this year’s squad is Joelle Grubbs, who led West Central Valley with 69 assists this season. The rest of this year’s varsity basketball players are all projected to return next winter for the Wildcats including the squad’s leading scorer and rebounder, Sydney Neal.
