An old wives’ tale says a snowstorm happens during the Iowa Girls’ High School State Basketball Tournament. The late Saturday/early Sunday storm didn’t wait for the start of the annual event today at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Seven games are on the docket for today and tonight including two involving Heart of Iowa Activities Conference teams, and one from the West Central Activities Conference, all in Class 3A.
The four quarterfinals in Class 5A will be played before the top seed in 3A, North Polk (Alleman), the Heart of Iowa champion, takes the court at 5 p.m. vs. Estherville-Lincoln Central. At 8:30 p.m., it’s Heart of Iowa member Roland-Story (Story City) vs. West Central Activities Conference member Des Moines Christian in the last game of the day.
Greene County lost twice in HOIAC action to both NP and R-S. The 3A semifinals are Feb. 28 with the title game set for 8 p.m. on March 1.
