Road conditions are more favorable after freezing rain and ice occurred overnight in the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area.
A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 9 a.m. this morning. Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says crews were out early this morning treating the roads for ice, and Greene County Secondary Roads have had plow trucks and maintainers on the paved and gravel roads since 6 a.m. Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says two trucks were sent out by 6 a.m. treating roads with salt and sand. Another batch of winter weather will arrive this evening as a Blizzard Warning will be in effect for Greene and Guthrie counties and a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Dallas County from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 p.m. tomorrow. The National Weather Service predicts snow accumulations of 4-8 inches with winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour, creating blizzard conditions. A Blizzard Warning means white out conditions are expected, making travel extremely dangerous. Listen to Raccoon Valley Radio for road condition and weather updates as well as cancellation information.
