The annual Greene County Cattlemen’s Association Banquet and Auction was held Friday night, due to inclement weather.

Despite the date change, there was still plenty of community support, as close to $23,000 was raised during the trophy auction. A total of $22,830 was raised on 52 different items. The traveling trophy, which is awarded to the organization or individual that bids the most money, went to Hamilton Land with $1,775. The highest amount that was bid on went to Hamilton Redi-Mix, that had the winning bid of $1,050 for the first auction item of the night for the Grand Champion 4-H Market Animal.

The event also included the six board members who were retiring and have combined 169 years of service. Those individuals included: Doug Lawton for 39 years, Mike Ostendorf and Roger Rowles each for 30 years, Steve Kennedy for 25 years, Dave Tipton for 23 years and Tom Heun for 22 years.

Part of the proceeds from the auction goes towards scholarships for graduating seniors. Those who received $750 scholarships last year were recognized and they included: Kane Borgeson, CJ Muir, Releigh St. Clair, Ben Bravard, Kara Betts, Charles Gunn and Joe Towers. Those who received a $250 scholarship were Thomas Gannon, Muir, Betts and Gunn. The other proceeds will go toward other local projects.
