A candidate for President of the United States paid a visit to Perry Tuesday afternoon, as Congressman John Delaney took part in a meet and greet at the Perry Perk Coffee Shop.

The former Representative from Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, who decided to not seek a fourth term in office so as to focus all his attention on running for President, met with a room full of people interested in learning more about him. He spoke about his background and how he feels it gives him a leg up on running the country, and also outlined several of his ideas for if he’s elected to the office. He then held a question and answer session, where he discussed topics ranging from healthcare costs to immigration, and several others in between. Delaney told Raccoon Valley Radio that the Q&A portion of his events is his favorite part.

“Listening is always the most valuable thing to do. You know, I hear about what people are concerned about, what their anxieties are, what issues they’re facing. And it really helps make me, first a better candidate, and then hopefully a better President. What I want them to get from me is, I want them to get a sense as to who I am, why I’m doing this, and what I plan on doing, both to win and govern. How I’m going to get real things done to make a difference in their lives.”

Delaney is the first officially declared Democratic Presidential candidate to visit Perry ahead of the 2020 Iowa Caucuses. Yesterday’s meet and greet was organized by the Perry Area Democrats, as well as the Dallas County Democratic Party.
