A winter storm warning will be in effect later today for all of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

The National Weather Service will have a winter storm warning in effect for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties from 9pm tonight through noon on Wednesday. Hazards with the warning include moderate to heavy amounts of snowfall, moderate wind gusts and reduced visibility on roads. Our three counties could see as much as ten-inches of snowfall through tomorrow, and is expected to last between 12 to 18-hours. Blowing and drifting snow could impact visibility and the heavy snowfall will make for slick road conditions overnight and during tomorrow morning’s commute.

Iowa Department of Transportation Winter Operations Administrator Craig Bragfrede says they are monitoring and are preparing their equipment for the impending storm.

“They’re checking equipment, fixing anything that needs immediate attention, watching the forecast and getting folks ready into the next shift as we deal with this pending storm. (We are also) Looking at materials, looking at all the things that we need to do to have on hand from a statewide perspective in preparation for this event.”
