A hog confinement building near Scranton is a total loss following an early Friday morning fire.

According to Greene County Dispatch, Scranton and Jefferson Fire departments, Greene County Emergency Medical Services and the Greene County Sheriff’s office responded to the structure fire at 1947 I Avenue just after 5am. Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio when they arrived on scene, the metal building was burning from the rafters in the insulation area. Crews were able to put out the flames, but not before the building was deemed a total loss.

Williams says the fire originated in the roof/attic area of the building. He believes the cause to be electrical. No livestock were hurt in the incident. Williams adds that due to the extreme cold, they had to deal with issues of some of their water pumps and valves freezing. Williams says they were on scene for about three hours. According to the Greene County Assessor’s real estate webpage, the property is owned by Joey Schon.
