A Guthrie Center woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, less than five grams.

Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird requested a 10 year sentence for 36-year-old Stephanie Cooley while the defense requested probation. Cooley is also ordered to pay court costs, the law enforcement initiative surcharge, and the D.A.R.E. surcharge. The court found Cooley did not have the reasonable ability to pay attorney’s fees. Cooley pled guilty to the class C felony charge on August 20th for an offense that occurred on July 28th, 2018. Former County Attorney Mary Benton prosecuted this case and took the plea. Current attorney Bird represented the State at sentencing. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisted in the investigation.
