The Iowa high school State wrestling championships ended late Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines and the area crowned one champion. Cody Fisher, a junior wrestling for Woodward-Granger, finished atop the podium at 220 lbs. in Class 2A after finishing second his first two years of high school, both at 195 lbs. Fisher capped a 44-1 season with a 12-7 decision over another area wrestler, junior Kaden Sutton of ADM, who lost to Fisher in the Sectional, District, and now State finals, to complete a 35-7 campaign.
Winterset also had a Class 2A runner-up in Bryce Hatten at 126 lbs. He dropped a major decision by an 11-2 score to standout freshman Hayden Taylor of Solon. Hatten, a junior, finished 36-4 while Taylor went 51-2 as a ninth grader.
