As Guthrie County has received several inches of snow over the last couple weeks, the Secondary Roads Department has had their work cut out for them clearing roadways for motorists.
Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern shares how this week has been for county employees responding to the recent winter storm, “These past couple of storms have certainly been a challenge, especially this last one with the wind blowing. It was definitely two steps forward, one back, and in some cases two steps back, you know we lost all the ground we gained with the wind blowing as hard as it was and this light snow, it moved a lot.”
Sebern says the department has already used enough salt this winter that they’ve had to order more from their supplier, a contrast from recent, milder winter seasons. He says while blowing snow can make maintaining roads difficult, he has all department employees out on the gravel and paved roads getting the job done. He asks motorists to be patient during snow events, and to not crowd the plow.
