With the several bouts of snowfall that the City of Jefferson has dealt this winter, city crews still have plenty of material ready for the rest of the season.
Public Works Director Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio he feels confident that with the carry-over in their sand and salt mixture from last year and when they stocked up supplies before this winter, he has enough material to get through the rest of the winter season. However, there’s been one area that he’s noticed that’s been a recent issue is when property owners deposit snow from their sidewalks and driveways onto the street. He reminds all property owners that there is an ordinance that prohibits that kind of action and so he encourages everyone to follow the ordinance.
Morlan says during each snow event, they have dedicated routes that plow trucks operate. One truck runs all north and south streets, while another will do all of the east and west streets. Another truck will plow the alleys and the final truck will take care of all of the dead ends and the downtown square.
