Widespread cancellation of school Tuesday is modifying the weight allowance of this week’s 2019 Iowa State Wrestling tournament. The Iowa High School Athletic Association shared a memo from Wrestling Administrator Lewie Curtis yesterday morning stating individual qualifiers for tomorrow’s annual state wrestling tournament would be allowed an additional two-pound scale allowance each day of the event. Iowa high school wrestlers got a two-pound allowance after the conclusion of the holiday moratorium period, and the recent modification gives athletes more weight flexibility ahead of the annual state tournament.
Let’s use the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers state wrestlers to explain the change. Senior Andrew Flora enters tomorrow’s state tournament as the top seed in the 126-pound bracket. Due to the weather closures, Flora can weigh in at 130 pounds and is still eligible to compete. Senior Nolan Harsh (182) can hit the scale at 186 pounds, and junior Kaden Sutton (220) can weigh up to 224 pounds and still compete. The 2019 Iowa State Wrestling Tournament starts at 9 a.m. with the first session of the Class 3A section. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will bring you live play by play coverage of state wrestling all three days across all three of our station signals including 99.7 FM & AM 1310 KDLS, Perry, 98.9 FM KGRA, Jefferson, and 107.9 FM KKRF, Stuart.
