The ACGC boys basketball team got an extra couple days to prepare for their first postseason matchup as they open up district play against the Mount Ayr Raiders in Stuart tonight.
The Raiders enter tonight’s contest winners of twelve of the last thirteen. Junior Dawson Frost leads the team in scoring with an average of 15 points per game. Sophomore Payton Wheeler and junior Isaac Grose also average double figures for the Raiders. They are also undefeated away from Mount Ayr, winning by an average of 23 points in those games.
The Chargers are coming off a 65-42 victory in Guthrie Center over the West Central Valley Wildcats. Junior Bryce Littler needs just seven points to become the first Charger to reach 300 in a single season. Classmate Quynton Younker led all scores in the win over the Wildcats with 15, becoming the first Charger in the process to post back-to-back seasons of at least 200 points. The gold and black are still looking for that elusive first playoff victory. They’ve yet to get within single digits of a first-round opponent, falling by 14 points in each of the last two postseason debuts.
The winner of game one of the doubleheader will face Des Moines Christian in the Class 2A District 13 semifinals in Urbandale tomorrow. Panorama and West Central Valley will follow the Chargers and Raiders at West Central Valley High School in Stuart. You can hear both games live on RaccoonValleyRadio.com, and the KKRF2 mobile app. Pregame coverage begins at around 6:15pm with the Chargers and Raiders set to tip at 6:30.
