An early morning fire destroyed a Grand Junction home Saturday.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s office, the Grand Junction, Jefferson, Rippey and Paton Fire departments, along with the sheriff and a deputy responded to the residential fire at 313 East Main Street just before 7am. Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio the two occupants saw the smoke, called 911 to report it and got out of the home unharmed. Crews were able to put out the flames, but the home was considered to be a total loss.

Williams says they believe the fire to have started in the chimney, but they are unable to determine a cause. He adds that they believe the fire to be accidental in nature. Red Cross was contacted to help with the family.

According to the Greene County Assessors Real Estate webpage, the home belongs to Roger and Vivalore Gallagher.
