Elks donating to DARE program
The Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 recently gave several grant funds to a number of organizations in Greene County.
A total of seven organizations received $3,500 in grants. The Greene County Elementary School Ram Reader program received $1,000 to purchase books for four-year-olds to fourth graders. A $675 grant went to the Greene County High School for a safe venue to have their Homecoming and winter formal dance, along with the Junior Class Chili Supper Fundraiser at the Jefferson Elks Lodge. The Jefferson VFW received a $500 grant to aid local and needy veterans.
The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department got $425 to replace some of their flags that are displayed for Memorial Day in honor of fallen local veterans. The Greene County DARE program received a total of $625, including $400 for overall support of the entire program and $225 to purchase bracelets for the middle school students. Finally, a $250 grant went toward the purchase of a thermal imaging camera for the Jefferson Fire Department.
The Elks received two grants from the Elks National Foundation. One was for $2,000 for the Gratitude Grant and the other $1,500 was for the Anniversary Grant.
