With a chance of some snow coming in the next couple of days, it’s a good time to remind Jefferson residents and business owners of the City’s snow ordinance.
Anytime when there’s at least one-half-inch of accumulated snowfall, the snow ordinance goes into effect. When that happens, all vehicles are prohibited from parking on any city street, alleyway, or city-owned off-street parking until the snowfall stops and the roads have been cleared of snow from curb to curb. As for vehicles parked on the downtown square, parking is only prohibited from 2 to 6am.
During last week’s snowfall, the Jefferson Police Department reported issuing 24 snow emergency parking violations. Police Chief Mark Clouse says what can happen for those who are considered “repeat” offenders who don’t move their vehicle during a snow event.
“Your second or third snow ticket and you’re still not removing your vehicle, we’ll start towing your vehicle.”
Property owners are also reminded that you have within 12 hours after a snow event to clear sidewalks of snow and ice before you are in violation of the City’s ordinance. Property owners are not allowed to deposit snow into city streets.
