Tomorrow marks competition day for Greene County High School athletes in wrestling and girls’ basketball. First year head coach Zach Beekman takes five Sectional qualifiers to Harlan for a Class 2A wrestling district starting Saturday at noon. The first and second place finishers in each weight class on the district level advance to the Feb. 14-15-16 State Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. Braden Gallagher (106), Joe Ward (160), Brock Wuebker (170), Clint Dennhardt (182), and Bryce Hoyle (195) are the district qualifiers. Dennhardt and Hoyle go in as champions of their sectional while the other three were runners-up.

First year head coach Tyler Westhoff’s girls’ basketball team opens Class 3A Region 2 play at Carroll High vs. the Tigers. The Rams are 1-20 and lost last Saturday in Carroll 63-28. The Tigers are 12-8 on the season.

The Paton-Churdan girls were postponed Thursday. The Rockets and Ankeny Christian Academy are rescheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. at ACA in a Class 1A Region 7 first round contest. The winners plays Colo-Nesco in Colo on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
