The Guthrie County Fair Board has been offered a $50,000 donation for one of its proposed new buildings, but it can only be received with the community’s help.
An anonymous Guthrie County resident has come forward with the matching donation for a new Art and Ag Hall, with a challenge to residents to raise the other $50,000. In addition to a new Art and Ag Hall, the Board plans to remodel the fairground’s restrooms and shower houses, and build a new Lion’s Club and American Legion food and bingo stand.
Fair Board President Grant Sheeder expresses the need for these fairground upgrades, “We kind of feel that we need to start moving some of these other buildings up there in the floodplain that have been around for, I know the art hall has been there for 110 years. Get some of those out of the flood plain and upgraded because they’re not only dilapidated, they’re almost a risk for some people going in those so heavy wind, or snow or something like that. The test of time has done its due diligence on those buildings, so it’s time to upgrade those.”
The Board will also be fundraising for the new buildings with their 5th annual supper taking place March 2nd. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from a Board member or at Buttler Agronomy Services.
