Guthrie County area businesses have the opportunity to engage with young students and introduce them to potential career fields at this year’s STEM Fest.
Guthrie County Extension is hosting this year’s event revolved around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math on March 30th at Panorama High School. Businesses that are interested in having a demonstration booth are invited to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 12th at noon at the Panora Public Library.
Panora Chamber of Commerce Vice President and Lakeside Village Manager Amanda Creen says this is a chance for community members to open children’s eyes to different careers and jobs they never knew before, “We have an opportunity as business leaders to be able to present a booth to our children, so for us in the medical industry, for example, we want to promote careers in nursing and medical and we want to spark children’s interests in getting into the medical field if you’re in engineering, mathematics, or maybe agriculture or whatever your industry may be, there’s always going to be a need for students to spark an interest in that and that’s what STEM Fest is all about.”
Preregistration is not required for the informational meeting, and Creen says soup and sandwiches will be provided. If you’d like to learn more about STEM Fest, contact Guthrie County Extension at 641-747-2276 or email meganvh@iastate.edu.
