One United States Congressman says he isn’t backing down from the pressures of those wanting him to resign following controversial comments he made in a recent article.
Congressman Steve King, of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, had this to say when asked if he was going to resign after he was pulled off of all committees in the US House and a resolution was passed by the House rebuking the comments that King made in a New York Times article that claimed he supported white supremacy and white nationalists. “The idea of a resignation was always a ridiculous proposal, it’s just part of the stampede that they tried to create. I don’t think we lost Republicans in any significant numbers. I think we lost some Independents and we have to earn that trust back.”
There has been quite a field forming of Republican candidates gearing up to run against King in the 2020 primary election. As for whether or not King will make a re-election bid? “Absolutely I’m laying the groundwork for that. What I’ve said is that, ‘You send me to Washington (D.C.) and I will burn the candle at both ends and when I run out of wax, I’ll come home. We’ve got a year and a half before a final decision has to be made. But six months to a year from now people will be able to see how this has settled.”
