Less than 24 hours after sweeping two varsity basketball games in Jefferson from Saydel (Des Moines), the Greene County teams traveled to non-conference opponent Carroll High and lost both ends of a girl/boy doubleheader. Saturday’s scores were 63-28 in the girls’ game and 73-52 on the boys’ side.

Greene County fell to 1-18 in girls’ basketball while the Tigers improved to 12-6 with win number six in a row. Twelve different Carroll girls scored points, led by 13 from Laura Sweeney and 12 by Ella Collison. The Rams received seven points from Kassie Lamoureux. The score was tied at 4-4, then the Tigers took over, leading 15-5 after one quarter and 28-11 at halftime. The advantage grew to 44-18 at the end of the third quarter.

The Rams trailed the Carroll boys 12-3 before putting on a 10-0 run that saw them take the lead. Greene County’s biggest advantage was 22-18 in the second quarter, and then the Tigers took control. The home team led 40-30 at intermission, 55-40 at the end of the third quarter, and continued to build the lead to as many as 23 points. Karter Lein had 19 points with 16 from Tyler Tunning, and 13 from Colby Christensen to lead Carroll. Greene County had 19 from Tyler Miller and 13 from Trey Hinote. The Tigers, ranked in the Class 3A top 10, are 12-3, while the 2A Rams fell to 7-13.
