No matter your interests or special talents, you could make a difference in someone else’s life in your free time.
Hospice of the Midwest is giving residents around Guthrie County that opportunity with their volunteer program. The hospice service is hosting a volunteer education and training program tomorrow from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at their office in Guthrie Center. Volunteers can help patients in a variety of ways, from pet and music therapies to helping with errands and shopping. Hospice of the Midwest Executive Director Lynnea Andersen says being involved with hospice can be a very gratifying experience, “Most or all of our patients want us to be there so it just gives us the opportunity to give back. You learn things about your communities and sometimes families that you never knew existed, but it’s really neat to be able to sit down with somebody and just have a conversation with no timeframe with something that you want to do.”
For those who may not be comfortable providing direct support to hospice patients, Andersen says there are many other ways volunteers can get involved in their office and in the community. Snacks and lunch will be provided at the training program, and if you have questions or want to preregister you can reach them at 641-332-3006.
