Tomorrow may be the only suitable day for snowmobile riders in Guthrie County this week, as temperatures are expected to quickly rise this weekend.
Mike Patten, president of local snowmobile club the Raccoon Valley Snow Chasers, says it’s important to not ride alone on the trails, and to be prepared for any mechanical or other issues. He shares what you should do before hopping on your snowmobile, “If you’ve got an older sled, or not so much older but a carbureted sled that isn’t like fuel injected, you need to clean your carburetors and make sure that everything is in good working order so you don’t get out there and get stranded and that ruins everybody’s day. If your sled is mechanically good and you’ve got good clothes and you got things to keep the wind away from your helmet or windshield, something to keep the wind off of you.”
Patten also recommends bringing a repair kit, as well as first aid and emergency supplies. He urges snowmobilers to not speed in unfamiliar areas, obey traffic rules in communities, and to always stay on the trail.
