ACGC senior grappler Gabe Rowley achieved a historic milestone over the weekend at the annual Charger Invitational. Rowley secured his 100th victory in his high school career during Saturday’s home tournament.
Rowley got the achievement over Riverside’s Josh Mansfield in the 2nd consolation round, of the 145 pound weight class, after a pin fall at 3:50. Rowley would add another in the 5th place match with a 9-8 decision victory over Nodaway Valley’s Austin Wilson. His season record now stands at 37-10.
Head coach Shawn Danker talks about the momentous achievement for the senior. “For Gabe Rowley to reach his 100th win was fantastic. He has battled some major obstacles: injury, illness, whatever you want to call it, to get to that level. Last year (he) had a lot of trouble with his performance. Things that were out of his control. But then this year he got some things figured out, regrouped, and is having a great year right now.
Rowley will join the rest of the active squad this Saturday at the Class 1A Section 3 Tournament in Guthrie Center. The field includes grapplers from ACGC, West Central Valley, Panorama, Ogden, Audubon, Exira-EHK, and AHSTW. The top two wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the district tournament hosted by Interstate-35 in Truro. First grapples are set for around noon from ACGC High School.
