The Adel City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting was devoted to discussing the first draft of the 2020 fiscal year budget. Finance Officer Brittany Sandquist said the overall proposed tax levy rate will be decreasing by one-cent per $1,000 assessed value, even while the debt service is set to increase by $2 to help cover larger upcoming projects. As for the individual department budgets, most are remaining relatively unchanged, except that the police department has requested to add a 10th officer this year.
The Council also heard a brief report from the Historic Preservation Commision on museums and other external requests. Sandquist said the next steps are to have a vote in February to set a public hearing on the budget, which will then be held in March. The certified budget will then be submitted to the state. There was no action taken on any items discussed at Monday’s meeting. The Adel City Council will next convene on Tuesday, February 12th.
