The ACGC basketball teams ushered in a frigid week in the region, hosting the Van Meter Bulldogs in a West Central Activities Conference doubleheader Monday night. The Chargers felt the chill of defeat as the Bulldogs took both matches.
In the girls game, Van Meter jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Chargers got to within four points a few times in the fourth quarter, but junior Clair Lauterbauch was too much for the gold and black as she scored a game high 30 points enroute to a 59-49 victory. Senior Emily Roberts pitched in 16 for the Bulldogs while ACGC junior Kennedy Young led the Chargers with 14.
The boys game was also an uneven affair, as the Bulldogs rolled over the Chargers, 67-41. Van Meter moves to 15-0 on the season as junior Spencer Lamb led all scores with 19 points. Anthony Pothoff and Ryan Schmitt also scored double digits for the Bulldogs, while ACGC freshman Miles Kading and senior Bryce Littler led the gold and black with 12 each. Kading’s 12 was a career high performance.
The Chargers were scheduled to host the West Central Valley Wildcats in a Guthrie County showdown tonight. Due to weather, the doubleheader has been postponed to Thursday, February 7th.
