The Greene County Rams were 83-69 boys’ basketball winners over Panorama in Panora on Monday night. The victory was the first since Jan. 4 for head coach Chris Nelson’s team, now 6-12 on the season. They had dropped six straight and eight of nine prior to meeting the Panthers. Panorama fell to 8-9 and had a three-game winning streak snapped. The contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Senior Trey Hinote reached a new career high with 35 points and junior Carter Morton added 26 for Greene County. Hinote scored 23 in the first half and Morton put 20 on the board in the second half Hinote made five three-pointers, all in the opening half while Morton made three of his three-pointers in the second half. The Rams trailed by seven points in the first quarter, then led by seven in the second period before being up 42-37 at intermission.
Greene County was up by 14 points with 4:32 to play in the third period when 6′ 9″ junior Tyler Miller fouled out. He picked up a personal foul, his fourth, followed right away by a technical foul, which fouled him out. Miller finished with nine points. The Panthers cut the Greene County lead to nine points, but the Rams response and built the lead to as many as 17 points.
The Panthers received 26 points from senior Gracen Welberg and 24 from junior Kolby Shackelford. The duo combined for 30 points in the first half.
Greene County was to play tonight in Story City vs. Roland-Story, but that girl/boy twin bill has been postponed until Monday, Feb. 4.
