One senior on the West Central Valley varsity wrestling squad closed his regular season career atop the podium of this weekend’s Charger Invitational tournament in Guthrie Center. Cole Sackett (152; 31-7) won four matches Saturday to take first place at AC/GC’s annual wrestling tournament. He claimed the 152-pound championship with a first period pinfall (1:47) against Van Meter’s Bryce Cole. Sackett needed extra time in the semifinal round against Panorama senior Noah Kirtley, edging him for a 10-8 tiebreaker win.
Other notable place winners for West Central Valley at Saturday’s Charger Invitational include senior Carson Wadle (195) finishing second, senior Justin Garcia (126) taking third, and junior Weston Pote (138) placing fourth. The West Central Valley varsity wrestling team returns to Guthrie Center this weekend for the Class 1A Section 1 tournament hosted by AC/GC Community Schools. The field includes grapplers from AC/GC, AHSTW, Exira-EHK, Nodaway Valley, Ogden, Panorama, and West Central Valley. The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Class 1A District 1 tournament at Interstate 35 High School on Saturday, February 9. This weekend’s sectional tournament commences at noon Saturday from AC/GC High School in Guthrie Center.
