The next superintendent for Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Schools has been announced.
The Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center Board of Directors offered the shared superintendent position to Dennis McClain, and his contract will be approved at a special board meeting pending a formal background check. McClain currently serves as the superintendent and elementary principal for Clay Central Everly Schools. He has served in this role for the last seven years, and his previous experience includes serving as the kindergarten through twelfth grade principal in the Stanton School District and as a lead teacher for Clarinda Academy.
McClain earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and health from Buena Vista College in 1995, he earned his Master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Jones International University in 2007, and his Advanced Studies Certificate in superintendency from University of Northern Iowa in 2013. He is also working on his doctorate degree at UNI in educational leadership.
McClain and his wife Donna have three children and he said he was thrilled to accept the position, saying that him and his wife were very impressed with the academic and extracurricular programs that are available to their children at AC/GC. McClain and retiring Superintendent Steve Smith will begin working together for the remainder of the school year to ensure a smooth transition for all involved. McClain will begin his superintendent duties on July 1st. Both school boards want to thank everyone who participated in the hiring process for their valuable feedback on this hire that was critical for success in the final selection.
