Perry High School

This Friday’s varsity basketball game between Perry and Ballard is special for several reasons.

The games will mark this year’s “Coaches vs. Cancer Night” for Perry High School, with an assortment of fundraisers planned to benefit Relay for Life of Dallas County. First of all, the faculty and staff of the Perry School District can participate in a Jeans Day on Thursday, with all the proceeds going to Relay. At Friday’s games, spectators are encouraged to “Pink-out to Block-out Cancer,” to show their support for cancer research. There will be pink t-shirts for sale before and during the game.

The concession stand is also getting into the action, with the Perry SkillsUSA club offering a $6 Meal Deal that includes a pulled pork sandwich, chips, and a drink. $1 from each sale will be donated to Relay. During the games, Relay for Life will announce their plans for this year’s event, as well as hold a “48 Second Bucket Drill” that fans can be a part of. There will also be special recognition of fans who have been affected directly by cancer, or have had a loved one affected.

To cap the night off, the District will recognize Dallas County Reserve Deputy James Leber and the Ballard fans who helped save the life of Perry referee Bernie Rangel on January 17th. The four Ballard fans, Leber, and Rangel are each expected to be in attendance for the tribute.
