The original winter ride is returning this weekend, with Perry’s 42nd annual Bike Ride to Rippey, or BRR Ride.
The event has been organized by the Chamber of Commerce, and more than 350 people have already registered. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says often times the success or failure of BRR is dependant on the weather, but to help combat that the Chamber is offering more than just the ride this year. “We’ve had a really good response for registration, so regardless of what the weather does and who actually rides, we’re looking forward to a really good event overall. We’ve added some music entertainment, so again regardless of if you actually get on a bike, there’s things to do to have fun with it. So just putting our best foot forward to provide a good event that people can remember and look forward to.”
The festivities will begin Friday night from 7-10 p.m., as Stranger Than Fiction will be playing a concert at La Poste. Harvey’s at Hotel Pattee will also be providing a pasta bar. Activities will continue Saturday morning, as the Lions Club breakfast will be served at Hotel Pattee starting at 7:30 a.m., along with the beginning of registration for the ride. At 9:30, Deb Miller from the McCreary Center will lead a Zumba/STRONG warm-up for the riders. The ride itself will start at 10 a.m., and Hy-Vee will once again have their hot chocolate stop halfway between Perry and Rippey. Dallas County EMS will also be providing support services during the ride. The ride will happen regardless of the weather.
The day will wrap up with an after party at the hotel, featuring Lil Red and the Medicated Moose Band from 2-6 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge for each of the concerts, though they will be free with BRR registration. The cost to participate in BRR is $35 until the day of the event, when it will be $40.
