ACGC junior Bryce Littler had two points going into the fourth quarter of Friday night’s nonconference matchup with the CAM Cougars. Despite trailing by 22 at one point during the game, Littler’s 19 4th quarter points nearly gave the Chargers a steal in Anita, as they fell to the Cougars 56-59.
The Chargers trailed 28-47 going into the final frame, but outscored the Cougars 28-12 in the final session to give them a chance. The gold and black had the ball with just over two seconds left, but junior Quynton Younker’s three-point attempt missed to the right and CAM survived. CAM junior Jacob Holste led all Cougars with 16 points while classmate Ben Tibken chipped in eleven for the blue and white.
Littler’s 21 points put him over the 500 mark for his career. He joins classmate Quynton Younker as players who have already reached that milestone in an ACGC uniform. Littler is also just 26 points away from breaking Caden Wardyn’s single-season record of 268.
The girls game was a blowout from the start as the Cougars trounced the Chargers, 80-26. Seniors Paige McAfee and Madison Gettler combined for 43 of CAM’s 80 points. It was an emotional night for the district as girls head coach Joe Wollum secured the victory just hours after the funeral service for his nine-month-old son, Brooks.
Senior Sierra O’Brien led all Chargers with nine points in the setback. The 54 point spread is the largest margin of defeat suffered in program history for the girls. They fall to 9-9 overall and the boys drop to 5-12 on the season. Next up is a doubleheader with the Van Meter Bulldogs on Monday.
