Due to weather complications, the District Large Group Speech Contest has been postponed twice for Greene County and Paton-Churdan School Districts.

It was supposed to take place last weekend, but was pushed back to this past Wednesday, and was then again postponed to tomorrow at Perry High School. However, due to scheduling conflicts, a judge was hired to watch some of the performances from the two school districts. Greene County Speech Coach Kelley Gray says the choral reading and reader’s theater groups each received a division I-rating and will advance to the following weekend’s state contest.

Paton-Churdan Speech Coach Stephanie Pace says they had all three groups perform. The musical theater group received a division I-rating and will move onto the state contest, while reader’s theater and TV news each received a division II-rating and will not be moving on. To qualify for the state contest, a performance must receive a I-rating from the judge.

Greene County still has four groups left to compete tomorrow in Perry. Those events include a one-act play, radio news and two group improv teams. The state contest site is West Des Moines Valley High School and it will be held on Saturday, February 2nd.
