The Perry City Council convened Wednesday evening in regular session.
The meeting was originally scheduled for Tuesday due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, but because of the snowstorm it was ultimately moved to Wednesday. The meeting got kicked off with open forum, where Chamber of Commerce Board member Emily Leslie gave an update on the goings-on of the Perry Chamber. In old business, the Council approved two resolutions related to the renovation of the Perry Municipal Airport. First was the approval of the issuance of just over $2 million in general obligation airport improvement bonds, which is currently being used for land acquisition for the runway extension. Second was the approval of the bid letting and plans and specifications for the new hangar, which is expected to be finished November 22nd of this year.
In new business, the Council approved a service agreement between the City and Safe Building Compliance. The company will provide building inspection services on an interim basis, as the City seeks to replace former Compliance Officer Abraham Cardenes, who recently resigned. Finally, the Council discussed the creation of a Community and Economic Development Department. The City has been working on establishing the department for several years, and the Council approved each aspect of it, including initiating the process for hiring the Director.
