Travel has mostly returned to normal around Dallas County following a busy day for road crews.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the majority of state highways in Dallas County are now under seasonal conditions, with portions of highways 6, 44, and 169 still partially covered with snow. Additionally, they have lifted the tow ban in the County. There are still plows out on the roads, so motorists are reminded to give them plenty of room to do their jobs. As for the local roads, Dallas County Engineer Al Miller says his crews have been working since 5 a.m. today and have made good progress. He’s hopeful the plows will get to all 700+ miles of gravel road today, but whatever they don’t get taken care of today will be tackled first thing tomorrow morning, along with general cleanup on all the County roads.

Meanwhile, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has stayed busy since yesterday afternoon as they’ve aided travellers. Chief Deputy Adam Infante reports that starting at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, deputies have responded to at least three collisions and around 20 motorist assists for things like cars in ditches. He adds, there haven’t been any serious injuries with any of the incidents, and says motorists have done a relatively good job of driving safely during the current snow event.
