Road crews remain busy, but make quick work to help improve road conditions in Greene County.
Following the winter storm from Tuesday through early Wednesday morning, Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss tells Raccoon Valley Radio the secondary roads crews were out this morning at 5am treating the paved county roads again and they had the maintainers on the gravel roads. He adds that there wasn’t much snow on the gravel roads to deal with this morning and the sunshine is helping to turn any snow buildup or ice into slush. Weiss points out that crews will be back out this afternoon to clear the rest of the slush off the county roads.
Greene County Dispatch reports law enforcement having to respond to only one vehicle that went into the ditch due to the snow and ice-covered roadways.
Jefferson street crews have also been out and City Administrator Mike Palmer applauds the effort the crews do during each snow event.
“It’s pretty dangerous when guys have to get out of the trucks too and test the roads. It’s not uncommon for one of them to slip and fall and it’s cold out, all those good things. So when they’re out there, it does deserve a shoutout.”
The National Weather Service is anticipating dangerously cold temperatures with wind chills below zero degrees tomorrow and wind gusts around 30-miles-per-hour which may cause some blowing and drifting snow on the roadways. The one to count on for winter weather coverage is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
