Two separate winter weather-related wrecks this week in Dallas County resulted in minor injuries.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident happened Monday at around 5 p.m. A 2016 Nissan Rogue driven by 23-year-old Juana Rios-Martinez of Perry was travelling westbound on Highway 141 south of Woodward. She lost control of the vehicle after travelling over a slick spot on the roadway. The SUV then entered the center median and rolled, eventually coming to rest on its top. Rios-Martinez and her passenger were both wearing their seatbelts, and the airbags deployed during the wreck. The driver had minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene, and the passenger had no injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $20,000. Rios-Martinez was cited for failure to have a valid driver’s license and failure to maintain control.
The second incident happened Tuesday at around 3:30 p.m. in the 25000 block of Highway 141 between Perry and Woodward. A 2004 Toyota Avalon driven by 22-year-old Elizabeth Lockwood of Dows was travelling westbound on the highway. She reportedly attempted to slow down by pressing her brakes, which caused the vehicle to start sliding. Lockwood over corrected and wound up striking the concrete barrier on the north side of a bridge, coming to rest on the roadway. The vehicle blocked traffic for a short time before it was moved to the median by the Woodward Fire Department. The driver complained of shoulder and head pain and was transported to Dallas County Hospital by Emergency Medical Services. She was wearing a seatbelt, but the airbags in the vehicle did not deploy. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists to exercise caution while driving in adverse winter conditions, always wear seatbelts, and give yourself plenty of travel time.
