The road cleanup continues today after as much as eight-inches of snow was dropped in various locations around Dallas County in the last 24-hours.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, state highways around Dallas County are still partially covered with snow, and plows are currently servicing the roads. A tow ban also remains in place for Dallas, Polk, Jasper, and Story counties until further notice.
As for the County roads, Dallas County Engineer Al Miller says every one of his trucks has been active since around 5 a.m., and will continue working through 5 p.m. He says crews have been busy clearing all the paved roads and putting down material, which he says has been working well. However, he says it may take some time to get to all 700+ miles of gravel road in the County. He says they’re working to clean up areas where the snow has drifted considerably, and also making sure those who live in the rural areas have access to their driveways as quickly as possible. Miller is hopeful to get all roads clear by 5 p.m. today, but says they’ll likely have to come back tomorrow morning to finish things up.
Meanwhile, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has stayed busy since yesterday afternoon as they’ve aided travellers. Chief Deputy Adam Infante reports that starting at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, deputies have responded to three collisions and around 19 motorist assists for things like cars in ditches. He adds, there haven’t been any serious injuries with any of the incidents, and says motorists have done a relatively good job of driving safely during the current snow event.
