(Updated 9:20 a.m.) Fans of West Central Valley varsity wrestling might have noticed a change in the weight class senior Carson Wadle is competing in. Wadle last week wrestled all three matches at the Greene County nonconference quadrangular at 195 pounds. Before last Tuesday, Wadle had wrestled 28 of his 31 matches at 182 pounds with the other three matches coming at 195 pounds. West Central Valley head wrestling coach Ben Strandberg spoke about Wadle’s weight class change on Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page. He says the move could give Wadle an opportunity to end his high school wrestling career at Wells Fargo Arena. “I think Carson (Wadle) is a great wrestler and pretty much has an opportunity to go (to state) at either weight class,” Strandberg said, “(However), to be at full feed, and feel good going into the sectional and district tournament thats our goal with him. Some kids compete better when at full feed, some are able to have more of a stricter diet.”

Wadle’s full-season individual record sits at 29-5, winning all six of his grapples this season at 195 pounds. Wadle hasn’t qualified for the Iowa State High School Wrestling tournament in his three previous seasons. The Mount Ayr dual tournament that West Central Valley is schedule to take part in is postponed due to weather. The schools will try next Tuesday, January 29, to make up the event. The Wildcat grapplers next competition is in Guthire Center this Saturday, competing in the annual Charger Invitational.
