2017 Perry high school graduate Solomon Pierce has accepted a scholarship offer to play football for Morgan State at the FCS Division one level. Pierce played 2 years at Ellsworth Community College before drawing interest from several division one programs. Alabama State was the first school to offer Pierce followed by Morgan State. “I really liked the coaches during my visit at Morgan State,” stated Pierce. “They made me feel at home and I liked how they approached the game. They were very serious and said one of their main goals is to prepare athletes for a shot at the NFL which would be a dream of mine.”
Pierce has changed his body since he graduated from Perry 3 years ago. He started as a defensive lineman at Ellsworth before making a switch to offensive tackle. In that process, he has gained over 70 pounds as he tries to match the size and power he will be facing at Morgan State. “Yeah, gaining weight was kind of fun. I lifted a ton and ate even more. That recipe seemed to work for me and my weight was able to shoot way up.”
