As the winter weather continues to effect Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties, for Greene County and Jefferson road crews, they had a busy morning but are able to catch a break before an anticipated busy afternoon and evening.
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says secondary roads crews went out at 6am to apply sand and salt to all of the paved county roads. He adds that since the outdoor temperatures are warmer than expected, that has helped to melt the early morning freezing drizzle that slightly coated the roads. As for the Jefferson City Street Department, Public Works Director Dave Morlan says they were out at 7am applying their sand, salt and calcium-chloride mixture to all of the streets. Both Weiss and Morlan say their respective crews are now waiting for the snowfall to begin.
According to the National Weather Service, expected snowfall could be as much as six-inches across our listening area. Morlan reminds residents that the City’s snow ordinance will go into effect anytime there is one-half-inch of snowfall. All vehicles must be removed from city streets, alleyways and city-owned off-street parking until the roads have been cleared from curb-to-curb and the snow event is done.
