With high temperatures predicted in the lower 10’s later this week, those who enjoy exercising outside are reminded of ways to prevent injury.

Guthrie County Hospital Physical Therapist Jessica Carney tells Raccoon Valley Radio what people should do before they head out the door, “Making sure that if you are going to exercise outdoors that you do a proper warm up. And I like to start the warm up inside, you can do some stretching inside and then once you get outside make sure you do a little bit of warming up outside with what we call dynamic stretching so like skipping, walking lunges, those types of activities to prepare your muscles and your joints for the activity that you’re about to do.”

Carney also reminds people to dress suitably for winter conditions, with the closest layer to your skin a moisture-wicking material, followed by a fleece or wool layer, and on top a wind and water resistant layer.
