(Update 11:55 a.m.) Another batch of winter weather forced the first seasonal sports postponement this school year for Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community School District. ADM is among several Raccoon Valley Radio local school districts out of session today due to a deteriorating winter forecast calling for freezing rain and snow all across the region. Tonight’s Raccoon River Conference varsity doubleheader between ADM and Winterset is postponed as a result of no school today. ADM Activities Director Reece Satre shared with the public via ADM Activties Twitter page that the makeup date for today’s postponed games is this Thursday, January 24. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will have live play by play of the varsity games on True Country K 107.9, starting with pregame comments around 5:30 p.m. The varsity girls game will tip off around 6 p.m. and the boys contest will follow.
(Initial Story) Weather permitting, a Raccoon River Conference rivalry will renew on the hardwood this evening in Adel. The ADM Tiger varsity basketball team continues their second trip through the conference schedule tonight at home against league adversary the Winterset Huskies. ADM swept the varsity doubleheader against Winterset in their first meeting December 7 at Mel Penrod Gymnasium.
The ADM girls basketball team (10-6 overall; 6-2 RRC) outscored Winterset in each quarter of their 55-42 victory in Madison County last month. Junior Delaney Bertman posted a double-double to pace the Tigers, scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. ADM lost their hold on first place of the Raccoon River Conference standings last Thursday after losing to the Ballard Bombers, 47-32. The Tigers posted a season-low two assists in the setback. Winterset has won five of their seven games played since their first meeting against ADM. The Huskies are coming off a 60-23 loss last Thursday versus the Van Meter Bulldogs.
The ADM boys basketball team (7-6 overall; 5-3 RRC) used a 22-8 fourth-quarter run to top Winterset in their first meeting, 63-48. The Tigers assisted on 16 of their 19 made field goals, making 15 of their 20 free throws versus the Huskies. Sophomore Nate Mueller scored a team-best 24 points and dished out four dimes in the victory. ADM’s in the midst of a four-game overall losing streak, falling in double overtime in their latest game last Thursday against the Ballard Bombers, 63-61. Winterset won four of their seven games played since their previous matchup against ADM. The Huskies suffered a 58-56 setback against the Van Meter Bulldogs last Thursday in southern Dallas County.
