Because of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament scheduled for last Friday being cancelled due to weather and not being made up, there’s more than a week between competitions for Greene County’s High School wrestlers. First year head coach Zach Beekman’s Rams went 3-0 in dual meets on Senior Night in Jefferson on Jan. 15 to improve to 17-8 and clinch a winning season.
Next up are the final dual meets of the season for the Rams when they’ll meet Ballard (Huxley), Humboldt, and Perry at Perry High School on Thursday. The regular season ends this Saturday in Guthrie Center at the ACGC Invitational. The postseason begins on Feb. 2 in Ida Grove in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament.
The Rams haven’t been at full strength very often this season due mainly to illness and injury. That’s the case again as junior Will Hansen (145) and senior Bryce Hoyle (195) are among those nursing injuries. Coach Beekman told Raccoon Valley Radio that had the conference tournament been held, those two would have been withheld.
