Dallas County is in the process of searching for a new Human Resources Department Director, following the recent resignation of former Director Erin Freeman.
Freeman’s resignation was made official at the January 8th Board of Supervisors meeting, though a Supervisor indicated it was something that appeared to have been a while in the making. The Supervisor said there was no official reason given to the Board for why Freeman tendered her resignation, though he indicated it stemmed from a series of perceived harassment by the husband of a former County employee. Freeman and County Recorder Chad Airhart both alleged that Michael Walrod, the husband of Tonya Walrod who was terminated from the Recorder’s Office in 2017, had made disturbing threats on social media and was seen around various County offices throughout the last year.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Adel Police Department investigated the claims, but no charges were ever brought against Walrod, who maintained his innocence from wrongdoing during the investigation. The Supervisor said he was unsure if any of these circumstances ultimately led to Freeman’s resignation, but emphasized that there doesn’t appear to be any further action to be taken on the matter at this time. He also pointed out there were no claims of a hostile work environment from any department head as the matter was investigated.
The County is now looking to fill the position vacated by Freeman, and they appointed Operations Director Rob Tietz as the Interim HR Director at a meeting last Thursday.
